Keyline Capture System

The Keyline Capture System (KCS) is designed to identify books that were not produced in the binding process and to enable replacement labels for those missing books to be printed on the production line. Until now, a printer or publisher could only assume that all the books in a production mailing list were efficiently assembled and reliably addressed. With the KCS, an automated quality assurance audit can be added and easily integrated with the bindery line controller and into the manufacturing process to insure 100% of the customer's product is produced and distributed. Missing, duplicated and reordered books can be identified in real-time to help isolate machine problems during production. The added overall level of quality assurance provided by the KCS can lead to improved process control, machine maintenance identification and the reduction of waste that can result in press reruns.

A secondary function of the system makes available the raw captured data to allow other types of statistical information relating to the job or production line(s) to be reviewed. For each production run a datafile is created that contains a link to the book address that is captured, the machine on which it was produced and the exact time of production. This data can then be used, for example, to analyze machine downtime and determine the average production speed of the individual lines.

Features:

  • Collects and analyzes production data for up to 16 stitcher/binder  lines simultaneously.

  • Interfaces directly to the bindery controller printer interface.

  • Operator designed setup, processing sequence and  operation.

  • Real-time production status display for at-a-glance line performance  monitoring.

  • Real-time voice paging / Email to alert operators of line problems and missing addresses.

  • Internet ready for real-time and batch broadcasting of job status and  production reports.

  • Production tested to insure reliability, maximize ease of use and minimize operator error.

Benefits:

  • Verification and assurance that all books were produced.

  • Print missing address labels manually or in real time.

  • Quickly identify poorly  performing stitcher/bindery lines during production.

  • Create production audit record of each product produced by  specific machine and exact time.

  • Create a production summary and detailed reports for missing, duplicate and reordered books.

Hardware:

  • Stand-alone PC with custom developed software operating under  Windows NT.

  • Network interface ports for up to eight (8) bindery line controllers as  standard.

  • Bindery line controller printer interface. One (1) required for each  controller.

  • Videojet 9416 printer interface standard. Other inkjet printer   interfaces available.

  •  Industrial quality label printer.

Options:

  • Additional inkjet data capture ports.

  • Additional network interface ports - in increments of 8.

  • Additional production line label printers.

  • Interfaces to tape drives or other controller input devices.

  • Custom hardware and software development.
